This article examines the evolution of the participation of women in the governing bodies of nonprofit organizations. There appear to be very few women CEOs in nonprofit organizations, and women who have reached executive positions have mainly done so in recently created nonprofit organizations and those concerned with people at risk and vulnerable social groups. The article shows that the increase is essentially due to societal changes since the 1970s: growing female participation in the workforce, their higher level of education, democratization of society and nonprofit organizations, and recent nonprofit organizations more open to younger people and a broader cross-section of the population.

Publisher: Consortium EruditCountry: CanadaWhat is it that one sees at night, in 1831, atop a high tower rising from the heart of Paris? Alfred de Vigny’s poetic answer to this is fascinating: ridges, angles, rims, summits, needles, lit fires, lightning, but also shadows, vague shapes, wide chasms… Fine lines and large ensembles are opposed and combined to make the city into a compass of titanic proportions, directing the onward march of a world that has lost its sense of direction, yet is going ever faster. This article attempts to shed some light into the fray. The article aims to examine the relationships between student success and persistence in French as a foreign language studies, on the one hand, and age, sex and multiple registrations, on the other hand. Multiple registrations, that is, simultaneous registrations, in the same semester, to several parallel courses have received little attention in previous research on student success. The data, which concerns 454 students enrolled in a beginner-level course at a Swedish university, comes from a management system for university enrollment and results. The analysis, performed using logistic regressions, yields two main results. First, student success and persistence in French studies are partly linked to age. Students over the age of 60 are more likely to complete their preparatory course and continue their studies than traditional students (defined in this study as students in the 19-30 age group). Second, multiple registrations reduce the propensity of students to complete their French studies.

This paper examines the impact of convergence or divergence in time perceptions between members of a team on the forms of cooperation developed. Temporality is not studied here from an objective point of view, but subjective. There are two types of cooperation: Community (linked to the identification of the individual to the group) and complementary (based on the matching of individual interests). We analyze the merger of two medical units in a hospital by a longitudinal case study. This research shows that a convergence of temporalities would lead to Community cooperation, while a divergence would lead to complementary cooperation.

Publisher: CSTHA/AHSTCCountry: CanadaThis study outlines the development of information science in Canada through an examination of the research contributions to the field by Canadians. Identification of contributors, their backgrounds and the sub-areas of information science to which they have contributed indicate that the field continues to draw inter-disciplinary contributions from a wide variety of academic fields. Despite the tenuous self-identity of the discipline, the development of Canadian periodicals as well as undergraduate and graduate education programmes devoted to information science indicate an increased recognition of the existence and validity of the discipline.
