Contrary to what is usually assumed, the Anonymous Commentator on the Theaetetus is philosophically stimulating, as the confrontation with Stoicism shows. The Anonymous Commentator displays a subtle strategy, aiming not so much to reject distinctively Stoic doctrines as to incorporate them into his own Platonist system, on the assumption that only the latter can secure adequate foundations to the doctrines. The Anonymous Commentator can thus appropriate Stoicism and definitely settle the ancient quarrel between Stoicism and Platonism. Besides, Stoicism is not a separate issue, but is part of a wider issue. For the comparison with Stoicism also helps the Anonymous Commentator to defend his unitary interpretation of the Platonic-Academic tradition. Commenting a text is not a neutral practice but one of the most important aspects of post-Hellenistic philosophy.

In these epistemological and methodological remarks on the problems posed by the historical studies of ancients Judaism and Christianity, one looks especially on the continuity and discontinuity phenomena whose impact can be “difficult” in the contemporary ideological elaborations. We give primarily general remarks on Judaism and Christianity in classical and late Antiquity with regard to the results of current research. We speak also on the relationship between Judaism and Christianity at the time where it is only one movement among others in the first, and on questions of legitimacy which resulted in conflicts causing the distinction or separation and the phasing of two religions.

Can today’s reader relate to Petrine exhortation about slave submission in 1 Pet. 2,18-25 ? A narratological approach to this passage shows that the enunciation, by means of strategic narrative constructions such as the change of enunciatees, spatialization, temporality and intertextuality, brings the reader to identify with the slaves. These slaves become a paradigm for all victims of injustice and this therefore bringing the reader to readily accept Petrine exhortation.
