Zutshi;A search for direct pair production of supersymmetric top squarks ((t) over tilde (1)) is presented, assuming the (t) over tilde (1) decays into a top quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle, (chi) over tilde (0)(1), and that both top quarks decay to purely hadronic final states. A total of 16 (4) events are observed compared to a predicted standard model background of 13.5(-3.6)(+3.7) (4.4(-1.3)(+1.7)) events in two signal regions based on integral Ldt = 4.7 fb(-1) of pp collision data taken at root s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. An exclusion region in the (t) over tilde (1) versus (chi) over tilde (0)(1) mass plane is evaluated: 370 1) 10) similar to 0 GeV while m((t) over tilde1) = 445 GeV is excluded for m((chi) over tilde 10) <= 50 GeV.

The recorded minimum-bias sample is enhanced by triggers for “ultra-central” collisions, providing an opportunity to perform detailed study of flow harmonics in the regime where the initial state is dominated by fluctuations. The anisotropy of the charged-particle azimuthal angle distributions is characterized by the Fourier coefficients, v2–v7, which are measured using the two-particle correlation, scalar-product and event-plane methods. The goal of the paper is to provide measurements of the differential as well as integrated flow harmonics vn over wide ranges of the transverse momentum, 0.5

Two types of heterojunctions in the forms of WS$_2$/MoS$_2$/WS$_2$ (type-A) and MoS$_2$/WS$_2$/MoS$_2$ (type-B) with incident electrons in MoS$_2$ region are considered in which the lateral shift of electrons is induced by band alignments of the two constituent semiconductors. It is shown that the type-A heterojunction can act as an electron waveguide due to electron confinement between the two WS$_2$/MoS$_2$ interfaces which cause the incident electrons with an appropriate incidence angle to propagate along the interfaces. In this case the spin- and valley-dependent GH shifts of totally reflected electrons from the interface lead to separated electrons with distinct spin-valley indexes after traveling a sufficiently long distance. In type-B heterojunction, however, transmission resonances occur for incident electron beams passing through the structure, and large spin- and valley-dependent lateral shift values in propagating states can be achieved. Consequently, the transmitted electrons are spatially well-separated into electrons with distinct spin-valley indexes. Our findings reveal that the planar heterojunctions of transition metal dichalcogenides can be utilized as spin-valley beam filter and/or splitter without external gating. Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

Grape seeds are considered one of the most important sources for phenolic and other compounds and is globally consumed for the biological value of its active ingredients. The increasing prevalence of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus-related infections has become a very challenging health issue worldwide. This work aims at examining the antibacterial activity of alcoholic extract of black grape seeds (Vitis vinifera) against biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus haemolyticus. Staphylococcal bacterial isolates were first clinically confirmed using the VITEK-2compact system (ID and AST), and four isolates were selected depending on virulence and resistance to different types of antibiotics. The ability of S. aureus and S. haemolyticus isolates to form biofilm was examined using a standardized 96-well microtiter plate method. Furthermore, the effect of Moxifloxacin and Penicillin G with MIC, sub-MIC and sub-sub-MIC in preventing S. aureus and S. haemolyticus biofilm production, as well as that of the grape seed extract (180 mg/ml) were tested against biofilm formation. Our data indicate that all of the Staphylococcal bacterial isolates were able to produce biofilm which was prevented by the methanolic extracts of the crude seeds of Vitis vinifera rich in galloylated catechin esters of gallic acid. A significant (P < 0.001) synergistic effect between Penicillin G, Moxifloxacin with MIC, sub-MIC and sub-sub-MIC and that of the methanolic extract of Vitis vinifera (180 mg/ml) against bacterial biofilm formation was also detected. This report confirms the antibacterial activity of the methanolic extract of the black grape seeds.

These diagnostic strategies are safe and have been prospectively validated. The first step after identifying patients with suspicion of PE is to establish the pre-test clinical probability. Several scores are available in order to make a standardised and reproducible assessment of the clinical probability, and therefore represent precious diagnostic tools. Indeed, clinical probability guides further investigations. Indeed, in patients with a low or an intermediate clinical probability or an "unlikely" probability, PE can be safely ruled out by negative D-dimers in approximately one third of outpatients without additional imaging. In case of positive D-dimers and a high clinical probability or a "likely" clinical probability, CT pulmonary angiography is now the recommended imaging technique. However, lower limb venous compression ultrasound and ventilation/perfusion scans remain useful in patients with contra-indications to CT, mainly those with renal insufficiency. Finally, some novel diagnostic tests seem promising. For example, V/Q SPECT has arisen as a highly accurate test and a potential alternative to CTPA. However, prospective management outcome studies are still lacking and are warranted before its implementation in routine clinical practice.

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) disorders are caused by deficiencies in lysosomal enzymes, leading to impaired glycosaminoglycan (GAG) degradation. The resulting GAG accumulation in cells and connective tissues ultimately results in widespread tissue and organ dysfunction. The seven MPS types currently described are heterogeneous and progressive disorders, with somatic and neurological manifestations depending on the type of accumulating GAG. Heparan sulfate (HS) is one of the GAGs stored in patients with MPS I, II, and VII and the main GAG stored in patients with MPS III. These disorders are associated with significant central nervous system (CNS) abnormalities that can manifest as impaired cognition, hyperactive and/or aggressive behavior, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, and sleeping problems. This review discusses the anatomical and pathophysiological CNS changes accompanying HS accumulation as well as the mechanisms believed to cause CNS abnormalities in MPS patients. The content of this review is based on presentations and discussions on these topics during a meeting on the brain in MPS attended by an international group of MPS experts.
