description Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2018Elsevier BV Ren Na; Yanjie Luo; Haoyu Bo; Jian Zhang; Ruifang Jia; Qinglin Meng; Zhou Hongyou; Jianjun Hao; Jun Zhao;Abstract Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) can be infected by the fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, but its susceptibility varies depending on the cultivars. The aim of this study was to characterize and compare the biochemical responses between the R and the S sunflower cultivars after inoculation with S. sclerotiorum. The biochemical activities were detected by measuring necrotic cell, callose deposition, soluble protein content, as well as ROS accumulation at the infection site. Antioxidant enzymatic activities, the transcripts of ROS related genes and marker genes in pathways of salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) were also quantified to characterize the responses. Results showed that compared to the S cultivar, the R cultivar was characterized having reduced number of necrotic cell, more callose deposition on the cell wall, increased soluble protein content, higher levels of H2O2 and ROS scavenger enzyme activities, and upregulated transcript profile of marker genes of both SA and JA pathways.

To improve the stability and increase the economic viability of bio‐oil, high‐ and low‐molecular‐mass pyrolytic lignin (HMM and LMM) were obtained using solvent extraction. The microstructure of pyrolytic lignin was examined by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR). The dissimilar absorption intensities indicated the different content of corresponding functional groups in HMM and LMM. The pyrolysis behavior of HMM and LMM was studied by thermogravimetry coupled with FTIR. Obviously pyrolytic lignin undergoes three weight loss stages.

Conformational rigidity controls the bulk self-assembly and liquid crystallinity from amphiphilic block molecules to copolymers. The effects of block stereochemistry on the self-assembly have, however, been less explored. Here, we have investigated amphiphilic block molecules involving eight open-chain monosaccharide-based polyol units possessing different stereochemistries, derived from d-glucose, d-galactose, l-arabinose, d-mannose and l-rhamnose (allylated monosaccharides t-Glc*, e-Glc*, t-Gal*, e-Gal*, t-Ara*, e-Ara*, t-Man*, and t-Rha*), end-functionalized with repulsive tetradecyl alkyl chain blocks to form well-defined amphiphiles with block molecule structures. All compounds studied showed low temperature crystalline phases due to polyol crystallization, and smectic (lamellar) and isotropic phases upon heating in bulk. Hexagonal cylindrical phase was additionally observed for the composition involving t-Man*. Cubic phases were observed for e-Glc*, e-Gal*, e-Ara*, and t-Rha* derived compounds. Therein, the rich array of WAXS-reflections suggested that the crystalline polyol domains are not ultra-confined in spheres as in classic cubic phases but instead show network-like phase continuity, which is rare in bulk liquid crystals. Importantly, the transition temperatures of the self-assemblies were observed to depend strongly on the polyol stereochemistry. The findings underpin that the stereochemistry in carbohydrate-based assemblies involves complexity, which is an important parameter to be considered in material design when developing self-assemblies for different functions. Familicides have received relatively little attention in previous research and mostly appear as a byproduct in studies with broader objectives. Here, we reviewed 67 studies from 18 countries, published between 1980 and 2017, that report on familicides in which an offender killed or attempted to kill their current or former spouse/intimate partner and one or more of their biological or stepchildren. Studies were identified by a systematical literature search in PubMed, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar. Only eight studies had the specific aim of investigating familicide, while the remaining studies investigated broader phenomena (e.g., homicide-suicide) but reported on a subsample of familicide cases. We retrieved data concerning the offenders’ gender, age, and background, as well as information regarding victims and their relationship to the offender. We also retrieved contextual factors and characteristics of the offence, such as modus operandi, offence location, possible premeditation, and whether or not the offender had died by suicide in connection to the offence. Furthermore, we coded methodological aspects of the studies, such as data collection coverage and sources of information. Familicides were almost exclusively committed by men and about half of the familicide cases led to the subsequent suicide of the offender. Mental health problems, relationship problems, and financial difficulties were prevalent. Because few studies reported population base rates of the investigated characteristics, it is difficult to draw conclusions about risk factors for familicide. Future research should further investigate typologies of familicide and examine risk factors associated with different types of familicides.

Swarm-GPT enables users to automatically generate synchronized drone performances through natural language instructions. With an emphasis on safety and creativity, Swarm-GPT addresses a critical gap in the field of drone choreography by integrating the creative power of generative models with the effectiveness and safety of model-based planning algorithms. This goal is achieved by prompting the LLM to generate a unique set of waypoints based on extracted audio data. A trajectory planner processes these waypoints to guarantee collision-free and feasible motion. Results can be viewed in simulation prior to execution and modified through dynamic re-prompting. Sim-to-real transfer experiments demonstrate Swarm-GPT's ability to accurately replicate simulated drone trajectories, with a mean sim-to-real root mean square error (RMSE) of 28.7 mm. To date, Swarm-GPT has been successfully showcased at three live events, exemplifying safe real-world deployment of pre-trained models. Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures

One may estimate or test for diffusion by estimating a cross-sectionally aggregated correlation between neighbors over time from data. However, the estimated diffusion can be misleading if the diffusion is confounded by omitted covariates. This paper focuses on the measure of diffusion proposed by He and Song (2022, Preprint, arXiv:1812.04195v4 [stat.ME]), provides a method of decomposition analysis to measure the role of the covariates on the estimated diffusion, and develops an asymptotic inference procedure for the decomposition analysis in such a situation. This paper also presents results from a Monte Carlo study on the small sample performance of the inference procedure.

When the ratio of CaO and La2O3 and calcination’s temperature was 2.0:1.0 and 1,073 K, respectively, CaO-La2O3 had a good activity and stabilization. The co-settling method has the highest catalyst’s activity and biodiesel yield than that of other methods. The optimizing reaction temperature, reaction time, amount of catalyst, and ratio of methanol of palm oil were 70°C, 3.5 h, 2.5%, and 15:1, respectively. When CaO-La2O3 was reused five times, CaO-La2O3’s activity kept above 90%.
