The need to substitute capital for labor-force and the augmentation of internal demand explain the forms of expansion of spanish agriculture for the last 20 years: growth of production and changes in its composition, progression of productivity, intense mecanization, increase of imports more rapidly than exports. To day several factors disturbe this model of growth, the main ones being the slow-down or rural depopulation, the inequality on land distribution, the persistent weakness of breeding. In the crisis ' cycle, we may doubt that government and agricultors can reach, beyond their short term accommodation, a new long term compromise.

This research aims at describing what affects the experience of students following pre-university and the technical programs, and who undertake two types of paths for their bachelor’s degree : the regular and the one offered in continuum. The data were collected by means of a questionnaire developed from Tinto’s model (revised in 1997). The results indicate that the graduates of the technical sector enrolled in continuum training are less likely to achieve university academic integration successfully compared with pre-university graduates in regular bachelor’s degree. Yet, they persevere in their studies in greater numbers than the others.

David Claerbout’s video installation, Vietnam, 1967, near Duc Pho, reconstruction after Hiromichi Mine (2000), questions the “photographic now,” the present state of photography and its new relation to the present. The piece reproduces, or more exactly recomposes, a press photograph of an American airplane shot down by friendly fire. The Belgian artist travelled to the site of the accident and took a series of photos of the landscape. He then assembled these stills into a video animation onto which he superimposed the still image of the exploding plane. The result is an image whose temporality is hybrid and whose mediality is unclassifiable. This study investigates the process of digital reconstruction and animation, and the “becoming signal” of the image, and questions the possibility of reactualizing the photographic past through digital screening.

Nationalist policies and international politics inform the economic value and social capital attributed to varieties of Tamil taught as different heritage languages in Indian and Sri Lankan community schools and across French and English-medium public schools in Montreal, Quebec. In reimagining the local sociolinguistic division of labour between francophone and anglophone educational domains, Indian immigrants and Sri Lankan refugees pursue alternative sources of funding and institutional partnerships to implement two distinct heritage language education curricula in this city. Sri Lankans seek to preserve a literary style of Tamil to serve as a repository of their patrimony and validate claims of cultural authenticity, whereas Indians seek to modernize colloquial styles of Tamil that promise them access to new markets, facilitate speakers’ mobility, and affirm their claims of global modernity. Articulating these different valuations of a minority language exposes the competitive and collaborative dynamics of neoliberalism.

With the coronavirus crisis, remote nature destinations like Chilean Patagonia are worried of a possible collapse of tourism. Local communities, frightened by the risks of welcoming visitors, are withdrawing and protecting themselves. Entrepreneurs hope for a rapid return to “normality” in an area relatively untouched by COVID-19 but they fear the end of the tourism boom, as flying will remain an anxiety-provoking issue in a post-pandemic situation. These destinations have to refocus their offer in order to capture a national clientele, but this seems an unprofitable challenge for isolated areas. While entrepreneurs are refining their marketing plans and government services are establishing their secure reception protocols, leaders of ecological and conservation tourism projects along with rural tourism and leisure migration stakeholders are highlighting their assets. The current crisis could put an end to mass tourism, hypermobilities, projects based on high profitability and overtourism in iconic places. In that sense, the present global socioenvironmental crisis is an opportunity to rethink our relationship with nature and seek ways to strengthen local tourism systems, conceived as places to live and based on environmentally friendly rural economies, cultural, scientific, and traditional exchanges, attractive both to national and foreign visitors.
